The Bardavon and the Hudson Valley Philharmonic have a long history with the community. Volunteers have played a vital role in contributing to our success since the beginning. Many people volunteer their time by means of several opportunities:
Ushering at performances
Ushers may be called upon to: take tickets, show people to their reserved seats, hand out programs, monitor rest rooms, assist in directing patrons at the concessions and assist the House staff in general with any special needs/tasks during a performance at the direction of the management.
Ushers are recruited once a year, there is an interview process and mandatory training. Ushers must be willing to work both Poughkeepsie and Kingston locations. Sign up for performances occur based on the individual's availability. Ushers are welcome (and encouraged) to watch the performances. Seating is limited and subject to availability. Email Donna to be put on the waiting list or schedule an interview.
Working in the History Archives
Volunteers help separate and sort files for preservation as well as create and maintain a database to categorize archival material. They also assist in occasional research projects.
Volunteers help with labeling, sorting, envelope stuffing, filing and data entry throughout the Bardavon season. Volunteers with a flexible schedule are contacted on an "as needed" basis.
In Kind Services
Operating a theater and keeping an historical building up and running requires many services. Many people (and businesses) volunteer their time helping to defer overhead costs. Services have included: computer consultation, telephone repair, engineering, photography, transportation, carpentry, hospitality, catering, legal services, gardening, painting, plastering, decorating, and cleaning.
